Abstract

As climate change intensifies, the Malaysian government is promoting SDGs to mitigate the impacts through carbon emission reduction, renewable energy, and adaptation strategies. This study explores factors influencing EV purchase intention among Generation X and Y in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Specifically, it examines the roles of environmental concern (EC), social influence (SI), perceived economic benefits (PEB), and perceived ease of use (PEOU), with perceived usefulness (PU) as a mediating factor. Multigroup analyses were employed to investigate gender differences in the model. Findings revealed that EC significantly affects PU, indicating that environmentally conscious individuals view EVs as more beneficial. Moreover, PU mediates the relationship between EC and purchase intention, suggesting that concern for the environment enhances the PU of EVs, thereby increasing purchase likelihood. SI and PEB also significantly impact EV purchase intention. Gender does indeed play a moderating role, with significant differences between men and women. These findings support an extended TPB framework and offer practical insights for policymakers and industry players. By aligning environmental values with tangible benefits, stakeholders can more effectively promote EV adoption among Malaysian consumers, particularly in targeted generational groups.
